Body expression and schema

Body schema is the mental representation we have of our own body. It develops throughout childhood through visual, tactile, vestibular, and kinesthetic stimulation. The body schema allows a child to locate different parts of their body in space, mimic a posture, and avoid injury. Sometimes, the body schema may not develop properly, especially in children with disabilities. If this happens, various difficulties can arise, such as issues with perception and orientation, motor challenges, and problems related to behavior and social interactions.
